‘Motorists should expect delays’ – PSNI ahead of three day parade
The PSNI in Newry has issued a short statement to advise Newry motorists to expect delays due to the upcoming bank holiday weekend parades.
Police are advising that delays should be expected on the evening of Friday 24th of August and traffic disruption is expected on the Belfast Road, Downshire Road and Sandy’s Street areas between the hours of 7pm and 10.30 pm.
This issue has been previously highlighted by Sinn Fein’s Mickey Brady, who during a meeting with PSNI senior officers last week was assured that a minimum number of streets will be affected by closures. “I also insisted that local residents need to be facilitated as much as possible for access in and out of their homes.”
He added, “The PSNI have said they will facilitate this and that they will be monitoring the conduct of those participating in the marches.”
From Friday 24th August until Sunday 26th August, a total of five parades will take place through the streets of Newry, with over 3,000 participants and 50 bands taking part.
