The independent insurance broker, with a significant operation in Newry, has – for the fifth year – offered to sponsor vehicle breakdown assistance for a Life & Time nursing staff, who attend the homes of patients to provide care, at end of life.

The charity provides a community-based ‘on call’ service between the hours of 10 pm and 8 am for individuals at the end of life, who choose to die at home.

Following a GP referral, The Life and Time nurses can provide symptom control at home and support for the family, similar to what you might expect to receive in a hospital setting.

Established in 2018 by retired GP Doctor Henry McLaughlin, the charity operates in the Warrenpoint, Burren, Rostrevor, Mayobridge, Rathfriland and Hilltown areas, with plans to expand into the Mourne region in late 2024.

The corporate sponsorship from AbbeyAutoline offers all nursing staff breakdown assistance for their vehicles while out on call.

Founder Dr Henry McLaughlin says, “Over 78 nurses are on staff, providing an average response time of less than 15 minutes and covering an area of approximately 300km².

“This breakdown support sponsorship from AbbeyAutoline provides invaluable peace of mind to our nursing team, allowing them to continue in their work, secure in the knowledge, that should they have an issue with their car, the Abbey Autoline team a just a call away.

“We’d like to thank them for their continued support of our charity and the team.”

Managing Director of AbbeyAutoline Julie Gibbons adds, “We are delighted to contribute in any small way to the efforts of this visionary charity which provides much-needed support and care to terminally ill individuals and their families allowing the end-of-life experience to be handled with sensitivity, dignity and respect.

She adds, “We are indeed fortunate to have such an amazing team providing such a standard of care in our local community.”
