Man charged after three PSNI officers injured during incident | Newry News

Police have charged a man following an incident where a police car was rammed in the Tullyneill Road area of Newtownhamilton, resulting in three police officers receiving injuries.

The incident happened on on Friday evening, 27 October, 2023.

The arrest was made after Police Service of Northern Ireland officers were alerted to a man who made off from An Garda Siochana officers in the Republic of Ireland and crossed into Northern Ireland.

Local neighbourhood officers stopped the vehicle and their patrol car was rammed.

The man was arrested a short time later.

Two officers were unable to continue their shift following this incident.

The man, aged 21, was charged with a number of offences, including failing to stop for police, driving with excess alcohol, dangerous driving and possession of an offensive weapon.

He is due to appear before Newry Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 22 November, 2023.

As is usual procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the PPS.
