The Southern Health and Social Care Trust’s Paediatric Feeding Service (PFS) recently held its third annual information day at Seagoe Parish Centre.

During the six-hour event, the PFS team, which includes Paediatricians, Dietitians and Speech and Language Therapists, delivered a range of presentations and workshops on issues such as weaning, swallowing difficulties, reflux, tongue-tie and clinical psychology.

Attendees heard from parents who have experienced feeding challenges with their children and how they were supported through involvement with the PFS.

A large number of information stands, covering a wide range of services that support our children and young people along with their families and carers, were also available for those in attendance to browse and gather information.

Catherine McAnuff, Paediatric Feeding Service Lead, says, “We are delighted that parents took the opportunity to come along and hear from our team and also the range of specialists that we had presented in areas such as Tongue-tie, Gastroenterology and Neonatology and Clinical Psychology

“Many of our colleagues across other professions who attended also gained an insight into the specialist feeding support and advice available to them when supporting families.”

Catherine added that the team are indebted to those parents who shared their own personal experiences of managing feeding issues and how these difficulties have impacted family life.

“We hope that everyone who attended will have gone away with the essential information they need to maximise feeding outcomes for either their own children or the children and families they work with.”
