The funds were raised as part of the Christmas Charity Song campaign – entitled A Christmas Wish – which Niamh wrote to help support the Charity and its work with homeless people across Northern Ireland and the fundraising efforts of her grandmother Mary Murphy.

The 14-year-old junior Eurovision Finalist said that she had enjoyed such an amazing year, “it felt right to do something to help other people”.

“I know homelessness is such an issue, so I chose the Simon Community as the beneficiary charity.”

Niamh’s grandmother also raised £600 as part of the family’s efforts to support the Simon Community, while Niamh raised £2,400 through her charity single launched in December 2022.

Niamh was a finalist in the BBC School Soloist of the Year, and following her success in reaching the Final of the Irish Junior Eurovision Song Contest, Niamh completed a songwriting course with Irish singer-songwriter and Meteor Award winner Luan Parle.

“I wrote the Christmas Charity song after the songwriting course with Luan, and it really helped me with structuring the song to convey what I wanted to say,” she explains.

“Luan signed her first record deal at age 12 and is now signed with Elton John’s Management Company, Twenty-First Artists.

“It was amazing to learn from her and have such support from someone I’ve admired for a long time,” Niamh says.

Niamh, a student of St Pauls, Newry, has a busy year ahead of her with GCSE choices to make and lots of performances and bookings in the calendar.

“I love being busy, and it’s amazing to be invited to play the instrument I love, but I hope to be able to continue to support local charities throughout the year as I feel it’s really important,” Niamh adds.
