Contract agreement ‘will unlock £8 million funding for Newry’ – Councillor Kearns | News in Newry
Sinn Féin councillor Geraldine Kearns has welcomed the signing of the city deals contract, saying that it will unlock £8 million in funding for Newry.
The Newry City Councillor says, “The Contract for funding local regeneration projects from the Belfast region city deal has now been agreed.
“This is a really big boost for Newry.
“£5 million will go towards public realm works, allowing us to carry out works to improve Newry city centre with things such as roadworks, footpath improvements or tree plantings.
“An additional £3 million will go towards a Grade A office accommodation fund.
“Both of these projects, along with the new Theatre and Arts centre, along with the Civic centre, will play a key role in helping to regenerate Newry City Centre.”
Her party colleague, Liz Kimmins MLA, adds, “The signing of this contract is an important step forward for the regeneration project.
“This will allow the council to further progress key projects and draw down funding as they move forward.
“It is important that the council uses this to press forward positively to deliver a new, vibrant city centre to the people of Newry,” she adds.
