Kimmins urges DVA to do more to clear MOT backlog | Newry Times
Newry Sinn Féin MLA Liz Kimmins has urged DVA to do more to help clear the backlog facing people applying for an MOT.
The Newry and Armagh MLA says, “We’ve been contacted by a number of people who have had difficulty in securing an MOT appointment in good time or even at a test centre close to them.
“Sinn Féin has been continually pushing DVA to improve their services so that people can get access to these essential appointments.
“The PSNI will not penalise a driver of a vehicle with an expired MOT as long as they can provide proof that a test has been booked and that the vehicle is in a roadworthy and safe condition.
“However, if your tax is due to expire before the MOT appointment, you should contact DVA to request an urgent appointment.
“After Sinn Féin’s calls to increase capacity, the DVA has recruited additional vehicle examiners and offered vehicle testing on Sundays and bank holidays, when testing was not normally available.
“However, more must be done.
“Sinn Féin will continue pressing DVA to take steps to address the backlog in MOT appointments to ensure as many people as possible can access these services,” she adds.
