The Newry and Armagh MLA explains, “For months now, road resurfacing in the four council areas of Newry, Mourne and Down, Mid Ulster; Derry and Strabane; and Omagh have stopped due to a legal challenge.

“I understand that additional resurfacing contracts have now ended across the southern division.

“And now no works are taking place in this area and other areas are likely to be impacted.

“There are concerns that works will not be delivered on the ground in these impacted areas until March 2022 at the earliest.

“Our roads are in a dire state.

“And the last thing we need is a delay in much-needed works.

“I have written to the Minister for Infrastructure urging her to explore extending current contracts to ensure essential works is carried out and to protect jobs in the industry,” the local MLA adds.
