The Academy, which will focus on the technologies that enable the Internet of Things (IoT), will see participants receive 10 weeks of online training with Belfast Met and gain industry-recognised qualifications.

Completing the course guarantees a job interview for a role at Sensata’s Northern Ireland Technical Centre.

Sensata Technologies has operations in 12 countries, including in Antrim, and is a leading industrial technology company that develops sensors, sensor-based solutions, including controllers and software, and other mission-critical products to create valuable business insights for customers and end-users.

Highlighting the opportunity, the Minister explains, “This is the first time we have run an Assured Skills Academy with Sensata and it is a fantastic opportunity for people with degrees to reskill for a career in engineering.

“Assured Skills Academies have a proven track record of success in equipping people with the skills they need to boost their career options, with the vast majority of participants securing employment following an Academy.

“I urge anyone who is interested and eligible to apply for this exciting opportunity,” she adds.

The Academy will provide training on topics across the full stack of technologies in IoT solutions, from the sensing layer through to data science and visualisation.

Knowledge in these topics will help equip participants for engineering roles such as software development, systems design and systems verification.

Eric Sorret of Sensata Technologies says, “We are excited about the potential of this Assured Skills Academy to contribute to the talent pipeline which is key to the future of our Sensata Northern Ireland team.

Eric adds, “This IoT Academy will provide real-world skills and prepare candidates to work on the technologies of the future, and I look forward to adding new skills to our talented team in Antrim.”

Louise Warde Hunter, Principal and Chief Executive at Belfast Met, comments, “The College is delighted to be delivering this new Academy with Sensata and DfE.

“Through this Academy we will be delivering cutting edge training on new technologies relating to IoT, providing a vital opportunity for participants to gain full-time employment on completion.”
