Newry stabbing: 38-year-old man charged with attempted murder
A 38-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder, Newry police have said.
The man is due to appear at Newry Magistrates Court today, Monday 9 November.
As is normal procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
The charge relates to a stabbing incident which occurred at the Liska Manor area of Newry on Saturday 7 November.
Officers received a report at around 5.30 pm on Saturday evening that a woman had been stabbed a number of times at a house in the area.
Police and paramedics attended the scene and the woman was moved to hospital for treatment to her injuries which have been described as serious.
A search was conducted in the area of Liska Manor and a male suspect aged 38, was arrested a short time later on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent.
Newry Sinn Fein MLA Liz Kimmins described the incident as ‘distressing news’.
“The thoughts and prayers of all are with the young victim in the hope she makes a full recovery,” she added.
