Man, 31, arrested on suspicion of arson endangering life with intent
Detectives are investigating a fire at a property in Newtownhamilton on Friday night, 31 July.
Speaking to Newry Times, Detective Sergeant McCarragher said, “Shortly before 10:45 pm police on patrol in the area observed smoke coming from a property in Dungormley Estate.
“The property was checked by both police and the NIFRS, and it was found that no one was inside at the time.
“One neighbouring property had to be evacuated as NIFRS worked to extinguish the fire.
“There were no reports of any injuries.
He continued, “A man, aged 31 years old, has been arrested on suspicion of arson endangering life with intent and remains in custody at this time.
“Substantial damage was caused to the property as a result of this fire, which had the potential to spread to other adjoining houses, and which is being treated as arson endangering life,” Detective Sergeant McCarragher added.
