Newry death: police arrest 23-year-old man

Detectives from Serious Crime Branch in Newry have arrested a 23-year-old man as part of their investigation into the suspicious death of a 20-year-old woman.

The woman was found dead at her home in Drumalane Park, Newry this morning, Sunday, 2 August.



The investigation is at an early stage.

Police said they are currently not looking for anyone else in connection with the death.

The woman’s body was found this morning by local police and a post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death is to be carried out.



“Sense of shock in the Newry community.”


Local Sinn Fein MP Mickey Brady told Newry Times there was “a sense of shock in the community” at the news.

‪“There is a sense of shock within the local community at the news that a young woman has been killed in an incident in Drumalane.

“I want to express my condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of the woman who has died at this sad time.



“A police investigation is now underway and anyone with information on what happened should get in contact with the PSNI,” he added.
