Arson attack on South Armagh home

Police in Newtownhamilton are appealing for information following a report of arson at residential premises.

The arson incident happened at a home on the Skerriff Road area of Cullyhanna on Tuesday 19 May.

 

 

Speaking to Newry Times, Sergeant Reynolds said, “Sometime between 2 am and 3 am, it was reported that a house had been set on fire in the area.

“Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service attended and extinguished the fire.

“Thankfully no one was inside the property during the incident.

 

 

“Enquiries are ongoing and at this stage.

“The fire is being treated as deliberate ignition.

 

 

“We are appealing to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area at the time of the incident to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 434 19/05/20.

“Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

 

 

Sergeant Reynolds added, “Crimestoppers is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.”

Sinn Féin Councillor Barra Ó Muirí condemned the arson attack.

The local Councillor said, “The fire brigade were called to the scene and they managed to extinguish the flames.

“The property on the Skerriff Road was unoccupied at the time and thankfully no-one was injured.

The Sinn Féin representative added, “Local people are rightly concerned at another arson attack incident in the area.”
