Coronavirus Northern Ireland: Economy Minister urged to address gaps in aid packages
Newry and Armagh Sinn Féin MLA Liz Kimmins has confirmed that she has written to the Economy Minister highlighting issues of concerns for those Businesses that ‘have fallen through the gap’ in accessing the current Corvid-19 aid packages.
The local MLAtold Newry Times, “I have been working on several issues that have been brought to my attention by businesses in the local area who fall through the gaps in relation to accessing business grants that are being made available in response to Covid-19 by the Department for Economy.
“These include businesses in the leisure and manufacturing sectors, some of whom pay significant rates.
“Many owners feel they are being left behind and are facing permanent closure if adequate support does not become available.”
The Sinn Féin MLA continued, “It is important that all businesses are given an equal chance to survive during this very challenging period.
“I have written to Minister for Economy Diane Dodds urging her to address these gaps in the current process,” she added.
