Coronavirus Northern Ireland: Criminal elements ‘taking advantage of crisis’
Sinn Féin Councillor Charlie Casey has warned that there criminal elements taking the opportunity to continue their criminal activity in this time of crisis.
The Chairperson of Newry Mourne and Down Council was speaking after the Council Depot was broken into.
Speaking to Newry Times, Councillor Casey said, “Unfortunately I have just been informed that our Council Depot broken into last night.
“The PSNI are currently at the scene.
“Criminal elements are taking the opportunity in times of crisis.
“I hope that they are soon arrested and prosecuted.”
The Chairperson of Council continued, “At a time when our families, businesses and communities are facing huge challenges we have an element who continue to prey upon us.
“Our people are united in keeping healthy, safe and secure, and yet individuals and criminal gangs see this as a time to strike as they plunder and pillage.”
The Sinn Féin representative added, “Please continue to be alert to criminal activity and if anyone notices anything suspicious, contact the Police immediately.”
