£4.9m water mains improvement work planned for Newry

NI Water is currently engaged in an ongoing process of improving and upgrading the water supply infrastructure throughout Northern Ireland and work will get underway in the coming months in the Newry, Kilkeel, Mayobridge, Rathfriland and Hilltown areas.

Work is due to get underway later this month in Mayobridge and Rathfriland, with work in other areas to be delivered during the next 2 years.

This £4.9 million investment will benefit customers in the local area, as the upgraded water mains will improve the quality, reliability and security of the local water supply, while reducing leakage and improving pressure in the area.

The work will involve improving approximately 47km of water mains, with the overall programme of work progressing throughout the wider area until 2022/23.

NI Water and their contractor Meridian Utilities Ltd thanked the public for their patience and cooperation while completing the essential programme of work and said they will do everything possible to keep any disruption to a minimum.

Letter drops will be completed as NI Water move into affected areas to advise residents of this work and traffic management and signage will also be in place as the work progresses.
