Firmus Energy drops natural gas price by over 20% in Newry area

The reduction follows consultation with the Utility Regulator, the Consumer Council for Northern Ireland and the Department for the Economy.

The move follows on from an earlier price drop in October 2019 and means that Firmus Energy’s Ten Towns domestic and small business customers will now pay almost 30% less for their natural gas than last summer.

Firmus Energy’s domestic customers can now expect their typical annual tariff to reduce by approx. £135 per year.

The decrease will apply to 2,350 customers in the Newry area.

The change will come into effect on 1 April 2020.

Michael Scott, Managing Director of Firmus Energy, said, “We are delighted to be able to drop our natural gas prices again.

“This is more good news for customers in our Ten Towns network area and is particularly welcome against a backdrop of increased living costs.

“This saving follows on from a previous reduction of 8.77% in October last year and means that natural gas is now almost 30% cheaper than last summer.

“Firmus Energy is committed to providing its customers with the best possible prices and customers can expect to receive confirmation of this good news via letter in the next few days,” he added.
