Local Councillor takes on Climate Change Spokesperson role

Following a reshuffle of the Assembly and council team, local Councillor Pete Byrne has been appointed as the Climate Change spokesperson.

Welcoming his new appointment, Councillor Byrne said, “I am delighted to have been appointed to this role and I thank our party leader, Colum Eastwood MP for his confidence in me.

“This will be a challenging role but one that will be very rewarding and I look forward to giving it my all.

 

 

“Climate change is no longer a theory but an irrefutable fact.

“It is clearly the biggest threat facing our planet and the biggest challenge facing our planet.

 

 

“The climate emergency affects public health, housing and almost every element of our society.

“That is why it is a top priority for the SDLP and I look forward to working with colleagues across the North to ensure that key aspects of public policy are climate proofed,” he added.
