Newry house fire being treated as deliberate by police

Detectives are appealing for information following a report of arson in the Boat Street area of Newry.

The incident happened on Friday 27 December.

Speaking to Newry Times, Detective Sergeant Bell said, “At around 12:20pm, it was reported that a window of a property in the area had been smashed and a fire had started in the kitchen inside the property.

 

 

“No one was inside the flat at the time of the incident.

“Enquiries are continuing and at this stage, the fire is being treated as deliberate.

 

 

“We would appeal to anyone with any information to contact detectives on 101, quoting reference 991 27/12/19.

He added, “Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

“It is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.”
