Praise for Bessbrook Fostering and Adoption event

Sinn Féin MP Mickey Brady and Councillor Roisin Mulgrew have both praised the recent Foster Families and Adoptation Information event which took place in Bessbrook Community Centre.

Speaking to Newry Times, Councillor Mulgrew said, “Mickey and I attended this event in Bessbrook Community Centre where we watched a production by PrimeCut theatre group.

“The production was brought together using the experiences and sentiments of those within the care system and it gave a thought-provoking insight into the desperate situation many children find themselves in and the need for both foster families and those willing to adopt.

 

 

The local Councillor added, “Well done to all involved and those agencies and charities that helped organise this event.”

Echoing his colleague’s sentiments, Mickey Brady said, “The Issues involving Fostering and Adaptation were laid bare by this excellent, sensitive and informed production.

 

 

“There is a shortage in fostering services and families, in particular, are difficult to place together.

“Vulnerable teenagers and young people get caught in both the lack of support and services available to them.

“I commend the work of those agencies, charities and voluntary groups who work with these vulnerable young people on the front line, however, there needs to be more support for these groups in terms of resources and coordinated responses from government,” he added.
