Newry drivers urged to shop around for car insurance
The Consumer Council is renewing its call for drivers to shop around for car insurance as the confused.com car insurance price index reveals another significant increase in the average annual renewal cost for Northern Ireland drivers – up 8% to £942 per year.
Scott Kennerley, Director of Financial Services at The Consumer Council told Newry Times, “The findings of the car insurance price index by confused.com shows the average price of car insurance in Northern Ireland is £69 more than last year.

“Whilst Northern Ireland drivers have experienced an 8% increase to an average premium of £942, the overall UK price increase is just 3%, with an average premium of £783 – a difference of £159 in annual costs.”
Scott reminded drivers of the need to shop around for the best deal.
“45% of Northern Ireland drivers renew with their existing insurer as compared to only 30% in England and yet we know savings can often be made by shopping around,” he insisted.
“Our advice is that consumers check 2 – 3 different comparison sites to get an idea of what is on offer.
“And remember, not all providers feature on comparison websites so it is also important to check direct provider websites and contact various brokers and insurance providers to see who can offer the best deal.
Scott added, “Consumers can download a handy guide to car insurance from our website (https://www.consumercouncil.org.uk/node/449) for further advice and guidance.”
