280 local school children join Chairman’s 66 mile Charity Walk

Councillor Mark Murnin Chairman of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council is set to embark on a 66 mile walk across the District in a 3-day event to raise funds for his three chosen charities; NI Air Ambulance; Newry Gateway and Glebe House.

The Chairman’s Walk is a new initiative by Councillor Murnin as his year in office nears closure and he will be joined across three days by local schools, charity representatives and the President of Newry Chamber of Commerce Paul Convery.

 

 

Speaking to Newry Times, Chairman Murnin said, “I wanted to do something active, which would showcase the beauty of the region that I am proud to live in.

“I am delighted to be taking on this Charity Walk challenge and to use this unique opportunity to raise money for these important local charities,” he added.

Over 250 school children from schools including Our Lady’s Grammar, Newry, St Mary’s Primary School, Newcastle and Christ the King, Ballynahinch among others, are joining the 3mile£3 supporter walks and there is still time for other schools or groups to get involved as on the day registration is available.

 

 

The route – from Slieve Gullion to Delamont – has 5 supporter opportunities to walk 3 miles for £3 donation to the local charities.

You can join Chairman at 10am at Slieve Gullion on 8 May or 2pm at Albert Basin on the afternoon of the 8 May (3 miles) or 10am at Kilbroney Park, Rostrevor on 9 May (3 miles) or in Newcastle at 10am, on 10 May 2019 (3 miles).

You can also join the Chairman at Delamont Park at 5pm for the Final Lap and enjoy the entertainment at the finish line.

The event will culminate in on the evening of the 10 May with a Party in the Park.

 

 

The Party in the Park is a free event from 5pm in Delamont Park with face painting, balloon modelling, live music, arts and crafts and an Artisan Marketplace.

There is no formal entry fee, but voluntary donations to the 3 charities can be made at the entrance gate.
