Warrenpoint business steps up investment

Local Business First Steps Nursery is set to take up residence in a new 6,500 square facilities later this month on the Burren Road, Warrenpoint, following investment in developing a dedicated new nursery facility by local business owners and First Steps Directors Barry Gray and Colin Dalton.

The new larger facility, managed by Karen Fegan, will see the addition of a new After School service to meet local need as well as creating a further 5 new employment positions during the year bringing the total number of professional nursery staff to 30.

An open night will be hosted on Thursday 2 May from 6-8pm for interested parents to attend.

Speaking to Newry Times, Manager Karen Fegan said, “We already look after close to 100 children from 2 months to school age, and they –  along with their parents – are excited to join us in the new facility which will see the expansion of room size, play areas and outside playing space.

“The new facility will also give us the capability to launch an after-school service which has been a business aim for some time but we didn’t have the necessary space.

“It’s wonderful to see local business owners like Colin and Barry, investing in First Steps and in the local area to service an important need for working parents to whom nursery services like ours are critical.

“As Architects, it means our directors can also bring their professional expertise to bear on this project and deliver a first class modern nursery facility for staff, children in our care and their parents and we’re very excited to make the move in the coming months,” Karen added.

The new development, on the site of the former Murdock’s Spar is some 2,000 sq. ft. larger than the original premises and includes ample parking, well planned pick up and drop off zones, state of the art light, heat and glazing systems and creatively landscaped outdoor zones for play.

It is anticipated First Steps will take up residence in the new building in May 2019 with the After School Service launching this summer.
