Less than one-third of Newry consumers shop around for best energy deal
The Consumer Council is reminding households to shop around for the best deal on their electricity and gas bills, as tariff increases of up to £92 a year go live.
Announcements were made over the past number of weeks by four of the six energy suppliers in Northern Ireland that tariff increases would impact from 1 October, ranging from 10.9% to 18.2%.
Speaking to Newry Times, Richard Williams, Head of Energy Policy at The Consumer Council, said, “Our research shows that 70% of households in Newry, Mourne and Down do not shop around for the best price for their gas and electricity.
“This is especially disappointing as only 1% of people who switched said they would not recommend it to others.
“Our free, independent, online Energy Price Comparison Tool allows you to compare the prices of all suppliers in Northern Ireland.
“The average household can make up to £89 and £44 savings on their annual electricity and gas bills, respectively,” he added.
