Sinn Féin Newry and Armagh MLA Megan Fearon has encouraged parents to apply for education support allowances for uniforms, meals and transport.

The Sinn Féin elected representative made the call after her party met with the Education Authority (EA) to discuss the operation of these key supports.

Speaking to Newry Times, the local MLA commented, “The meeting was very positive and staff updated the delegation on what measures they have put in place to ensure a more streamlined process this year for parents.

“This is ongoing work and we welcome that the Education Authority are striving to improve the services and support they provide to parents.”

She added, “Online applications are open for uniform grants, free school meals and transport.

“I would encourage all parents to apply early on the Education Authority Website to ensure you have the support in place for September.”
