Northern Ireland’s first ever Health and Fitness Awards have been launched to help recognise and celebrate the industry’s leading professionals and organisers are seeking entries from individuals and organisations in Newry.

The prestigious awards ceremony, which is sponsored by convenience retailer Centra, will take place on Saturday 22 September 2018 in the Crowne Plaza Belfast and is being hosted by former Emmerdale actress, Strictly Come Dancing star and health and fitness enthusiast, Gemma Atkinson and Q Radio’s Ninja Warrior Ibe Sesay.

Sarah Weir, Director of Weir Events and Creator of the Health & Fitness Awards said, “There has been a massive growth in Northern Ireland’s health and fitness industry over the last number of years and I am excited to have created a new event that will celebrate the sector’s hard work and dedication.

“The Health and Fitness Awards will recognise the wonderful individuals, organisations, products and services that are out there helping people become the best versions of themselves.

“We have secured a fantastic line-up of judges who have a wealth of knowledge and experience including former Ulster, Ireland and British Lions rugby star Stephen Ferris, Centra Ambassador and leading Northern Ireland nutritionist Jane McClenaghan, fitness blogger Aly Harte and Sunday Life Editor Martin Breen,” Sarah added.

Jennifer Morton, Centra NI Brand Manager said, “This year, Centra is investing £1.25m to promote health, fitness and wellbeing in Northern Ireland.

“We have created a year-long programme of varied events and an incredible online resource, the 10-Week Wellness Plan, backed up by a super range of healthy foods and drinks available in our stores, that puts health and wellbeing at the top of our agenda.

She added, “We’re delighted to be the title sponsor of the 2018 Health and Fitness Awards and we look forward to recognising and rewarding the individuals and organisations who are passionate about the work they do in inspiring people to lead healthier lives. We would encourage everyone to enter and we look forward to meeting all of our finalists on the night.”

There are 15 award categories to recognise the outstanding achievements of the local health and fitness industry including Gym of the Year, Personal Trainer of the Year, Best Corporate Wellness Programme, Retailer of the Year and Healthy Food Outlet of the Year.

Individual category sponsors include PureGym, Linwoods Health Foods, Gym Co, Cathedral Eye Clinic, BPerfect Cosmetics, FitFodder, Crowne Plaza Belfast, Saville Audio Visual and Mervyn Stewart Cars. Media partners are Sunday Life and Q Radio.

Gemma Atkinson added, “I am absolutely delighted to be co-hosting the inaugural Northern Ireland Health and Fitness Awards sponsored by Centra. Health and Fitness is such an important and huge part of my life and with having such a busy lifestyle, setting time aside for the gym keeps me in good shape – both mentally and physically,” she added.
