Teenager charged after Newry machete attack

Police have charged an 18-year-old man with a number of offences after a machete attack in Newry.

The teen was charged with aggravated burglary, grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence.

 

 

The charges are related to an incident at a house on Talbot Street, Newry during the early hours of the morning, Tuesday 5 June.

It was reported that shortly after 2.15am a number of men armed with machetes forced their way into a property and attacked the male occupant.

 

 

A 17-year-old male was taken to hospital for treatment for an injury to his nose and large cuts to his arm and leg as a result of the incident.

He appeared in Banbridge Magistrates Court this morning, Thursday 7 June. 

 

 

As is normal procedure all charges will be reviewed by the PPS.
