Newry MLA attends All Ireland dialogue on Brexit

SDLP MLA for Newry and Armagh Justin McNulty represented the SDLP at the All Ireland Civil Dialogue on Brexit in Dundalk recently when EU Chief Negotiator Michel Barnier addressed the gathering.

Speaking to Newry Times, McNulty said, “The British Government or their partners in the DUP might not get the seriousness of the Irish Border and the Brexit negotiations but Michel Barnier clearly does and it was great to have him in the region this week.

“Brexit is the greatest political, social and economic challenge this island has faced since partition, and this region, more so than any other, will face the adverse impact.

“The Irish Government have been crucial in standing up for our interests, and Mr. Barnier has clearly been listening.

“It’s just a pity the DUP and the Tories are deaf to reasoned arguments and the real-life consequences of any border imposition here.

He added, “In the coming weeks let’s hope Teresa May and her team wake up to the reality facing the communities who live and work here.”
