Local MLA expresses safety concerns over Derryleckagh Road
Sinn Féin MLA Sinead Ennis has raised her concerns over issues surrounding road safety on the Derryleckagh Road in Balllyholland.
In a statement, the South Down MLA said, “I have requested a site meeting with Department for Infrastructure to discuss the longstanding Road safety concerns on the Derryleckagh Road.
“Derryleckagh is used daily as a shortcut for commuters travelling between Warrenpoint and Newry. While this is understandable as motorists want to avoid the bottleneck at the Greenbank in Newry, however, this should not be to the detriment of Derryleckagh Road residents.
“I have been assured that DFI Roads Service are taking the concerns seriously and will be advancing plans to erect signage and speed awareness markings at various points on the road.
She added, “It is vitally important that we do our very best to keep our roads safe place and I would appeal to motorists to respect all road users. Including the residents along these roads.”
