EU Chief Negotiator Michel Barnier to visit border
The European Commission has announced that the European Commission’s Chief Negotiator for Article 50 Negotiations with the United Kingdom, Michel Barnier, will visit Northern Ireland on Monday 30 April 2018 and Tuesday 1 May 2018.
This will follow his visit to the south, where he will speak at an all-island civic dialogue on Brexit in Dundalk on Monday 30 April.
Mr. Barnier has already met Unionist and Nationalist politicians in both Brussels and Strasbourg, but the particular focus of this trip will be to meet business stakeholders from across Northern Ireland, including cross-border groups and companies in the Border areas of Newry/Dundalk and Derry/Letterkenny and rural representatives in Dungannon.
Mr Barnier has received many invitations over the past year but this occasion forms part of a series of meetings he has across the EU to engage with stakeholders on the consequences of Brexit.
