Local MLA meets EA to discuss local educational issues

Local MLA Sinéad Ennis has met with the Education Authority to discuss a range of educational issues across South Down.

The Sinn Féin delegation met with Ruth Bell, the Head of Children and young people’s Services and Brenda Rice Assistant Advisory Officer EA SEN School Support Service.

The main agenda item was provision Learning Support in the Mournes areas.

Speaking to Newry Times, Ennis commented, “Following the recently announced closure of St. Columbans College, Kilkeel we took the opportunity to raise the concerns of parents regarding provision for Learning Support in St. Louis Grammar School.

“We welcome the news that Education Authority will ensure that parental choice will be respected and children currently accessing Learning Support in St Columbans will continue to receive that support in the new St Louis set up,” she added.
