State of South Armagh roads on the agenda at meeting

Sinn Féin MLA Megan Fearon will lead a delegation of Sinn Féin elected representatives who are meeting with Department of Infrastructure (DfI) Roads Southern Divisional manager Simon Richardson.

The meeting is to discuss the state of the roads in the general South Armagh area.

The MLA, speaking prior to the meeting, said, “Myself and my colleagues welcome this opportunity to put the concerns of the communities about the current dangerous conditions of many of our roads directly to Roads Senior Management.

“The locations and conditions are well known and recorded, what we need to hear is the plan that the Department has to address these issues as a matter of urgency,” she added.

Newry, Mourne and Down Councillor Terry Hearty, who will also be attending the meeting said, “Our local communities are at breaking point, angry and frustrated by the lack of response to the Department of Infrastructure (DFI) Roads Service Department response to their plight.

“The health, safety and wellbeing of motorists, pedestrians and residents have been totally ignored.

He added, “Roads Service must face up to their responsibilities and take immediate and effective action to address these serious issues.”
