‘Hilltown water leak needs fixed’ – McMahon

Sinn Féin Councillor Oskana McMahon is calling on the relevant agencies to urgently resolve a water leak in the Hilltown area.

Speaking to Newry Times, Councillor McMahon said, “Local residents have contacted Sinn Fein representatives with concerns about water running down the footpath of Hilltown’s Spegla Park and Mourne View causing a risk to pedestrians and cars especially when it becomes icy.

“Sinn Féin representatives have been in contact with the Roads Department and Water NI and arranged a site meeting with both agencies.”

Following the site meeting, local Sinn Féin representative Gerry O’Hare said, “The Department of Infrastructure stated that gullies have now been cleaned and further works are planned as soon as funding permits.

“Water NI are also going to carry out some investigative work on site to determine if the pipes are blocked.

He added, “Sinn Féin has stressed to both agencies that we need a fast and efficient resolution to the issue.”
