Witnesses sought after ‘reckless’ shooting incident
Detectives are appealing for information following the report of a shooting incident in the Cloghoge Road area of Cullyhanna last night, Wednesday, 21 February.
At approximately 11.00pm shots were fired at the house, breaking windows in the living room/kitchen area and sitting room.
A woman and her son were in the property at the time.
They were not injured as a result of the shooting.
Detective Sergeant Bell appealed to anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the area or anyone who has information that would assist with police enquiries to contact Detectives at Ardmore on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 1560 21/02/18.
He added, “Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.”
Sinn Féin Councillor Barra Ó Muirí condemned the gun attack.
“This was a extremely reckless act which endangered the lives of those in the house,” Cllr Ó Muirí told Newry Times.
“Our community is lucky that we’re not dealing with a tragedy today.
“There is no place for guns on our streets and anyone with any information should bring it to the PSNI,” he added.
