Work on Hilltown road crossing welcomed

Sinn Fein MLA Sinéad Ennis has welcomed work starting on Hilltown Road Crossing.

The South Down MLA said, “It is welcome news that work has started on a Puffin Crossing in Hilltown.

“This comes as a result of nearly four years hard work by Sinn Finn representatives and local activists and was delivered by my party colleague Chris Hazzard when he was Infrastructure Minister.”

Local Cllr Oksana McMahon stated, “The crossing will be located close to the junction with the Rathfriland Road and will improve road safety for pedestrians, particularly vulnerable road users such as children, the elderly and people with disabilities.”

Local activist Gerry O’Hare said, “This crossing along with progress announced recently on bus shelters is very much welcomed.

“I will continue to work with my colleagues and statuary bodies to make roads in Hilltown safer for locals,” he added.
