Newry BID welcomes Big Telly Theatre Company to the city

Newry Business Improvement District (BID) are continuing to bring exciting and unique experiences to Newry locals and visitors alike with the opening of Big Telly Theatre Company’s Creative Shop on Newry’s Hill Street.

The creative shop will host a number of exciting events over the next two months from storytelling, theatre, dance, music, workshops and performances.

Speaking to Newry Times, Newry BID Director Eamonn Connolly said, “We are delighted to host Big Telly in such a great location within the centre of the city for the next two months, they have a lot of fun and exciting projects in the works that we are sure both the people of Newry and visitors alike will enjoy.”

In conjunction with the brand-new City of Merchants festival, 29th September – 1st October, Newry BID and Big Telly are running Merchant Quest, an interactive treasure hunt led by actors, trades and volunteers across Newry City, taking you behind the scenes in lots of Newry’s most well-known businesses and buildings, finishing with dramatic climax not to be missed.

Happening on Saturday 30th September, this hour-long adventure is the perfect fun day out and suitable for ages 7+, great for a family fun day or team bonding and it is sure to be a highlight of the City of Merchant festival. Tickets can be booked at Newry.com.

Another joint venture is Trade Secrets, where the history of some of Newry’s oldest and most well-known businesses are showcased through art. Four artists have been commissioned to create boxes showing the history of the building and businesses through different art mediums.

The artists will be in Buttercrane Shopping Centre on Saturday 30th September creating the boxes and they will then be on display for the weekend.

The City of Merchants Festival is the final event of the highly successful Giant Adventures season programme delivered by Newry, Mourne and Down District Council.

It is designed to showcase the unique history and success of Newry City, with three days filled with fireworks, events, family fun, arts, culture and the best in local food and drink.
