Newry athletes shine in penultimate firmus energy Super Six

The fifth event in this year’s firmus energy Super Six Series welcomed more than 130 young athletes to the Mary Peters Track in Belfast last Thursday evening.

With four previous events under the athletes’ belts, there was a real competitive edge as they competed in a number of disciplines aiming to better their previous outing.

 

 

In the Boys’ Minis 1000m, Tiernan O’Hare of 3 Ways Athletic Club came first with a time of 3.23.90.

Josh Osbourne finished in second place with a time of 3.35.22 and Oscar Eakin came in third place with a time of 3.26.04.

Organised by Lagan Valley Athletics Club, Northern Ireland’s largest athletic series is open to all young people aged eight and up. The range of track and field events on offer at the Mary Peter’s Track attracted a large number of competitors. Various 100m and 60m Junior Wheelchair events were on offer as well as the long jump, hammer, shot putt and Javelin.

 

 

Key event sponsor, firmus energy have sponsored the series for a number of years and welcomed the talent it attracts and develops year on year. Damian Dineen, firmus energy advisor and Jack Ferguson, firmus Sales Manager both attended the event and were impressed with the performances on the night.

Damian Dineen, firmus energy said, “You can really notice the competitive edge as these series events progress, this fifth event attracted a high number of participants competing in a range of disciplines. The athletes come from all over Northern Ireland and that is a testament to the popularity of the Super Six Series.”

Open to all budding athletes, both beginners who would like the opportunity to try out new track and field events and more serious competitors, offered the chance to go up against other skilled athletes from across Northern Ireland.               

 

 

Bryan McCorkell from Lagan Valley Athletics Club added, “It was a great turnout again and I am delighted to see many returning athletes and some new faces also. We are grateful for the wonderful support for the event from local families and athletes across the region as well as from our sponsor, firmus energy.”

Online registration for the final event in the firmus energy Super Six Series, which will take place on Thursday 31st August, is now open.
