Police issue traffic arrangements ahead of local road closures

psni30As final preparations get underway for the Gran Fondo Giro d’Italia on Sunday 4th June the public are being advised to plan their journey and be aware of local road closures.

Road closures will be in place across various parts of Northern Ireland on Sunday and there will be some travel disruption.

The Police Service is advising motorists if they are not planning to attend the event to avoid the routes which the race will take place.

However, if anyone is planning to travel to the event police would advise them to get to their destination prior to the road closures and also follow the controlled gateway crossings.

Assistant Chief Constable Alan Todd said, “As a police service, our primary duty is to ensure public safety. We have invested significant time and effort in planning for Sunday’s event with organisers and partner agencies to ensure that this year’s Gran Fondo Giro d’Italia passes off successfully whilst causing as little disruption to normal everyday life as possible.

“For the safety of riders and spectators it is essential that all roads are clear from vehicles and that no one parks on any of the planned routes.

“I want to reassure the public that we will do our utmost to keep disruption to an absolute minimum, however I would advise anyone if they are not planning to attend the event to avoid the routes which the race will take place and if you are travelling on the road networks on Sunday to allow extra time for their journey,” he continued.

“Anyone wishing to gain access to Ulster Hospital, Dundonald should be aware of road closures in the area. Diversions will be in place. However, we would suggest you leave extra time for your journey. Full details are available on http://www.setrust.hscni.net/3688.htm
