Burglars ‘surprised’ after coming face to face with elderly woman
Slieve Gullion Sinn Féin Councillor Mickey Larkin has called for vigilance following a burglary in Forkhill on Mother’s Day.
The Sinn Féin representative explained, “At about 5 pm on Mother’s Day, two men aged in their twenties gained access to a property through a window and door.
“They appeared surprised to find the householder, a lady of over eighty years old, at home.

“This didn’t deter them from searching the house however nothing was stolen and the lady was not injured.”
He continued, “The community is disgusted by this intrusion into the home of an elderly pensioner, and I would ask that if anyone noticed any suspicious activity, vehicles or people in the area at the time to report it to the police.
“Crimes of this nature are abhorrent at any time, but to prey on the elderly in the community on Mother’s Day shows that there are no depths to which these criminals will sink in order to line their pockets.

The local Councillor added, “Residents have already been in contact with the police providing information which I hope will lead to those responsible being apprehended.”
