Nominations for YAFTAs now open

Nominations for the Youth and Future Talent Awards are now open.
The YAFTAs, as the Awards are better known, aim to recognise the achievements of the unsung young heroes in the Newry, Mourne and Down Area, and take place over six categories: Good Relations, Community Safety, Innovation and Creativity, The Voice of Young People, Young Carer and Inspirational Young Person.
All nominees receive certificates recognising their achievements and those who are shortlisted in their categories attend the Awards Ceremony, a Gala Event in the Canal Court Hotel on March 28th, where the winners and runners-up are announced.

The YAFTAs are run by the Newry and Mourne Youth Council, in other words, by young people, for young people, and are supported by Newry, Mourne and Down District Council and the Executive Office.
2017 will be the fourth year the awards have been run, with each proving a bigger success than the last.
Chairperson of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, Councillor Gillian Fitzpatrick, who is a sponsor of this year’s awards, said at the launch of the Awards, “I would encourage people to nominate a young person or group of young people that you know have gone above and beyond in contributing to their families and communities, giving them the well deserved recognition for their hard work and effort.”
Nomination forms are available from the Education Authority and the District Council.
