Letters to the Editor, ‘Concern Worldwide thanks people of Newry for support last year’

Dear Editor,

Letters to the EditorOn behalf of Concern Worldwide, I would like to thank the people of Newry for their kind support last year.

2016 was a challenging year – one in which climate change, conflict, migration and natural disasters dominated the headlines, and where every minute of every day, 24 people, mainly women and children, fled their homes because of persecution.

Jan End 2017Yet despite the turmoil and change, one thing has remained the same – the generosity of people in this part of the world. It is their support – and the support of our dedicated volunteers in Newry – that enables us to respond immediately to emergencies and reach people in the most remote places and transform more lives.

I have witnessed for myself how that support is making a difference to Syrian refugee families living in Lebanon struggling to survive in overcrowded basements, half built homes and garages, and where Concern is providing vital assistance and protection and giving them back their dignity and more control over their lives.

Our commitment is to deliver compassionate solutions to people caught up in poverty, hunger and crisis and to hold ourselves fully accountable to them and to those who support our work.

I hope we can depend on you as we continue this important work in 2017 and beyond.

Thank you,

Peter Anderson – NI Director of Concern Worldwide
