Elderly in Newry urged to apply for Winter Fuel Payment

pensioner3Local Sinn Féin MLA Cathal Boylan is urging the elderly in Newry and Armagh to apply for the Winter Fuel Payment in advance of the colder weather. Speaking to Newry Times, Boylan said, “The scheme is designed to assist pensioners to meet the cost of heating their homes during the colder winter period.

nov-22-2016-big-box“It can be a massive help to those who cannot afford the extra cost of energy needed in their homes during the winter months, to provide heat and prepare food. “Winter Fuel Payment is not means tested and you can get it if you have reached the qualifying age if you were born before 5 May 1953, regardless if you are claiming a benefit or working.
