‘Rockwell must safeguard South Down jobs following B/E takeover’ – Ritchie
SDLP MP for South Down Margaret Ritchie has made representations to the Minister for the Economy after it was announced that US firm Rockwell Collins have taken over B/E Aerospace.
B/E Aerospace currently employ around 800 people at their aircraft seat manufacturing factory in Kilkeel.
Speaking to Newry Times, Ritchie said, “This announcement will understandably cause a certain amount of anxiety particularly in Kilkeel where B/E employ around 800 people.
“This factory has experienced problems during previous changes in management and this caused undue anxiety for workers on the ground.
“I have made representations to the minister for the Economy to ensure that difficulties of this nature are avoided in the time ahead.

She added, “As one of the largest employers in South Down, it is imperative that this announcement is swiftly followed by assurances for the hundreds of B/E employees in my constituency that their future with the company is safeguarded.”
