Funding boost for Education
Education Minister Peter Weir has welcomed an additional £13million capital funding as part of the October Monitoring process.
The extra funding will be spent on minor works and the purchase of furniture and equipment for schools.
In addition, the Department also received £2.3million towards the Shared Education Signature project as well as £1million for a range of other pressures.
Peter Weir said, “This extra funding is welcome news, particularly in these financially challenging times. It will help deliver more minor works schemes which can make a real difference to schools and childcare settings.
“It is estimated that over £50million will be invested in the minor works programme in the 2016/17 financial year.
He added, “This investment will enable improvements to be carried out across the schools estate, positively impacting on pupils, teachers and school staff.”
