Dumped tyres could endanger life, warns local Councillor
Slieve Gullion Sinn Féin Councillor Mickey Larkin has described the dumping of tyres close to the dual carriageway at the border as a reckless act that could endanger road users.
“These waste tyres have been dumped at the slip road used by emergency services to access the dual carriageway,” he told Newry Times.
“Any delay to attending an incident could result in further casualties.
“The persons who abandoned the tyres have little thought for the community or the environment. They may even have been paid by the same community to dispose of the tyres through proper procedures.
“It is apt that Sinn Féin has called for a central register to track all tyres from manufacture through to the disposal at end of life.

Larkin added, “I have reported this waste to the Environmental Health Department within the Council and anticipate a robust response.”
