Ruane calls for better broadband access across South Down
Sinn Féin MLA Caitríona Ruane has called for better broadband access across rural South Down.
Speaking to Newry Times, Ruane said, “Rural areas in South Down have some of the lowest broadband speeds across the north.
“This affects not only businesses in South Down but school children who rely on broadband connectivity to complete basics tasks.
“Low speed broadband from Derryleckagh to Drumgath and beyond offer speeds below 2mpbs – this is simply not acceptable. Basic tasks such as opening emails cannot be completed at these speeds.
“We need to commit to improving the broadband coverage for all of South Down as soon as we can.

She added, “Broadband is an essential service and South Down should not be left behind. Providing proper fibre broadband across rural areas would help local businesses and would help fulfil our young peoples educational needs.”
