‘Get Home Safe’ is the message from Newry PSNI
Police in Newry, Mourne & Down are promoting their get home safe message as summer beckons and the concert and festival season begins.
Speaking to Newry Times, Supt. Paul Reid said, “The summer is almost upon us and many young adults will be travelling home as university comes to an end.
“Many people will also be travelling to concerts and festivals over the summer months and we want to make sure that everyone enjoys themselves in a safe way.
“If you are going out socialising the most important thing is to drink responsibly. If you go out in a group, stay in a group – don’t let any of your friends wander off on their own.
“Don’t leave your drink unattended or accept a drink from someone you don’t know. If you feel drunk, dizzy or disorientated, seek help from a trusted friend or member of staff.
“Give careful consideration before you decide to leave with someone you have just met and remember that without consent it is rape. Make arrangements to get home before you even leave the house and never take a lift from a stranger.

“Make sure your mobile phone is fully charged before you go out for the night. Keep an eye on your friends. If you get into a heated situation, walk away and keep yourself out of trouble.
He added, “We will be conducting our usual night time economy patrols and operation and, together we can make sure that we all enjoy a safe and happy summer.”
