Newry athletes supported by The Mary Peters Trust
The Mary Peters Trust has once again provided funding in excess of £42,000 to 80 young athletes from across Northern Ireland, including two local athletes from Newry, in order to support and accelerate their professional careers.

In addition to this financial support, the athletes, along with their parents, coaches and sports body representatives, were invited along to the Trust’s Athlete Academy where they heard from industry experts who advised on how the athletes can best manage the non-sporting elements of their careers.
The Athlete’s Academy takes place bi-annually and the focus of this event was managing a professional online presence with guest speakers including Carly Rodgers, Digital Communications Manager at George Best Belfast City Airport and Pete Hanlon, Head of Creative at Flint Studios.
Eilish Rutherford, Chairman of the Mary Peters Trust, said, “Competing professionally for many athletes wouldn’t be possible without the financial aid they receive through the Trust. We are so pleased that the Mary Peters Trust is able to reward these athletes for their achievements and aid them in reaching their full potential.

“However, the Trust goes beyond simply providing financial support and our Athlete Academy allows the athletes to gain knowledge in areas such as nutrition, media relations, maximising and leveraging sponsor relationships, to managing their own personal online social media presence.”
