Ritchie urges more support for NI dairy farmers
SDLP MP for South Down, Margaret Ritchie, has spoken in Parliament in favour of greater support for Northern Irish dairy farmers.
Ritchie said, “Despite the world class quality of our dairy products, our reliance on the export market means Northern Irish dairy farmers are the worst affected by falls in the global price for milk.
“This is amplified by the unfair price difference Northern Irish farmers get for dairy goods compared to farmers in Britain,” she insisted.
“I believe this unfairness cannot go on and that the Government has an obligation to protect our world-class dairy sector from a volatile global market.
