Bell examines options for new ‘Energywise’ energy efficiency scheme
Enterprise, Trade and Investment Minister Jonathan Bell has announced his department is examining options for a new energy efficiency scheme that could provide energy savings for local properties.
EnergyWise is a cross-cutting scheme with its origins in the Northern Ireland Executive’s Delivering Social Change programme and continues to benefit from support and input from across the Executive.
EnergyWise is being developed by DETI in collaboration with DSD and OFMDFM and with support from the Utility Regulator.
Subject to funding availability and the necessary approvals, EnergyWise will replace the Northern Ireland Sustainable Energy Programme (NISEP) when it ends in March 2017.
Commenting on the scheme Jonathan Bell said, “I am pleased to announce that my Department is examining options for a new energy efficiency scheme for households.
“The aim of the EnergyWise Scheme is to deliver energy savings in line with the Energy Efficiency Directive whilst providing much needed investment in the energy services sector and targeted support for low income households not eligible for DSD’s Affordable Warmth Scheme.”

The Minister continued, “Energy efficiency helps consumers, to reduce their energy usage. This in turn helps lower their bills and also assists greatly with helping to reduce fuel poverty across Northern Ireland. Energy efficiency also underpins security of supply issues. There are also environmental benefits of reduced carbon emissions.”
He added, “I hope that further information on the proposed technical aspects of the EnergyWise scheme proposals will issue in the coming weeks via a consultation.”
